Memo: Run for Shelter

What's the Cause?
The Run for Shelter 5k will benefit Pathway Homeless shelter in Blacklick, Indiana County and Family Promise. Family Promise will provide not only shelter and meals, but assistance so famlies can get back on their feet through compassionate volunteers from local congregations.
Pathway has been in operation for 20 years and from February 1991 through May 31, 2010 has provided 57,307 nights of shelter and served 1,898 unduplicated homeless individuals, of those 1,327 were adults and 571 were children. Pathway is a program of the Indiana County Community Action Program, Inc. and a portion of their funds is dependent on community contributions and support.
Many Indiana County community members are unaware of the fact that there is a homelessness issue in their area. The majority of those who seek shelter, at Pathway, are doing so for the first time.
One can easily and quickly be displaced by tragedy that can range from, loss of their job, mental or physical health issues, natural disaster such as a fire, or even aging out of foster care. How one reacts to these events is dependent on whether or not one has resources such as money, family, or friends that can help care for them until they are on their feet.
This event is to bring awareness to this issue and raise funds that will help ICCAP continue their services to help our fellow community members.
